About Connections

SMS Studio communicates with Short Message Entities (SME) in order to exchange SMS messages.

An SME is an entity (e.g. SMS center, SMS gateway, or mobile device) capable of sending and receiving SMS messages.

To access SMEs, SMS Studio uses connections and accounts. Connection defines how to connect to an SME, while account defines the type and the properties of an SME.

SMS Studio supports the following connection types:

SIM Card Connection - Uses SIM card inserted into the mobile device (phone or modem).
SMPP Connection - Connects to an SME through SMPP protocol.
EMI/UCP Connection - Connects to an SME through EMI/UCP protocol.
HTTP Connection - Connects to an SME through HTTP protocol.
ODBC Connection - Uses a database as an SME.
CSP Connection - Connects to an SMS Studio application through CSP protocol.
Email Connection - Connects to an email server through SMTP and POP3 protocols in order to send and receive email messages.
External Application Connection - Connects with an external application.
Loopback Connection - Returns back sent messages.
Emulator Connection - Emulates an SME.

Additionally, SMS Studio supports the following server connection types, used to accept the connections initiated by the client applications:

SMPP Server Connection - Accepts a connection from another application through SMPP protocol.
EMI/UCP Server Connection - Accepts a connection from another application through EMI/UCP protocol.
CSP Server Connection - Accepts a connection from an SMS Studio application through CSP protocol.
