SMPP Connection

SMPP connection allows you to connect to an SME through SMPP protocol.

This type of connection can be used to connect to an SMS Center, SMS gateway, or another SMS Studio application.

Settings tab

SMPP Server address lets you specify the network name or the IP address of the SMPP server computer.
Port lets you specify the port number used for accepting SMPP connections on the server computer.
Connect timeout lets you specify the timeout value in seconds. If the server computer does not respond to the connection request in the specified time interval, the connection will be considered unavailable.

Note that you may enter up to three SMPP Server address and Port entries. The application will use these values consecutively while trying to connect to the server. This feature is useful in the situations when backup servers are available.
Local IP address lets you specify the local IP address SMS Studio will use when creating the connection. This setting is useful if you need to select the network adapter to be used by this connection, or if your network adapter is using several IP addresses. In most cases, there is no need to change this setting (i.e. it should be set to 0.0.0.0).
Port lets you specify the local port SMS Studio will use when creating the connection. This setting is useful if your SMPP server requires that you use specific port for making the connection. In most cases, there is no need to change this setting (i.e. it should be set to 0).
User name lets you enter the user name used to access SMPP server. This setting is also called system_id.
Password lets you enter the password used to access SMPP server.
Remember password allows you to specify if the application should remember your user name and password. If this option is not checked, the application will ask you for the user name and password each time you initiate the connection.
* System type defines how SMS Studio will present itself to the SMPP server.
* Login ESME Address, TON, NPI and Address Range allow you to enter ESME address if required by your SMPP server.

Submit tab

* Service type lets you choose the service type of submitted messages.
* Message mode lets you choose the mode for sending submitted messages.
* Message validity lets you choose the validity period for submitted messages.
* Data coding lets you specify the data coding scheme used to encode the text of outgoing messages.
* GSM data coding lets you specify the data coding scheme which should be used in cases that only GSM 7-bit characters are detected in the outgoing message.
* Compatibility lets you specify the compatibility mode used to encode the text of outgoing messages. This option allows you to set the limit of the number of encoded characters in the outgoing SMPP frame to accommodate to the alphabet used by the SME. The SMPP (default) option encodes maximum of 255 characters (or 127 Unicode characters) in one frame, GSM (7-bit) encodes maximum of 160 GSM septets (or 70 Unicode characters) in one frame, GSM (8-bit) encodes maximum of 140 characters (or 70 Unicode characters) in one frame.
* Binary data coding lets you specify the data coding scheme used for binary outgoing messages.
* Use TLV for sending contents specifies whether to use TLV for sending the contents.
* Use TLV for concatenated messages specifies whether to use TLV for sending concatenated messages.
* Submit timeout lets you specify the time interval in which SMPP server should respond to message submit requests. If no response has been received, message sending fails and, depending on the Sending attempts option, message may be submitted again. Note that this can generate duplicated messages if the specified timeout value is incorrect.
* Hold on temporary error lets you specify the time for which the sending of messages should be put on hold when a temporary error is returned by the server.
* Temporary errors lets you enter the list of hex codes of the errors that should be considered as temporary.

Advanced tab

* Outgoing international (TON and NPI) lets you specify the TON and NPI values which should be used for international phone numbers in submitted messages. International phone numbers in SMS Studio contain only digits preceded by the plus sign ( + ).
* Outgoing national (TON and NPI) lets you specify the TON and NPI values which should be used for national phone numbers in submitted messages. National phone numbers in SMS Studio contain only digits.
* Outgoing alphanumeric (TON and NPI) lets you specify the TON and NPI values which should be used for alphanumeric addresses in submitted messages. Alphanumeric addresses in SMS Studio may contain any combination of characters.
* Incoming international (TON and NPI) lets you specify the TON and NPI values used by the SME for international phone numbers in incoming messages. SMS Studio will insert a plus sign ( + ) at the beginning of the phone numbers with this combination of TON and NPI values.
* Maximum submit rate specifies the maximum rate (in messages per second) at which the application will submit messages. The application will never submit messages faster than this rate. Note that you may enter a decimal value in this field.
* Maximum submitted count specifies the maximum allowed number of submitted messages. The application will not send any more messages if this number is reached. When the number decreases, the application will continue sending the messages.
* Delivery report type lets you specify the type of delivery reports sent back by your SMPP provider.
Force conversion to GSM safe string specifies whether SMS Studio should convert outgoing message to GSM alphabet prior to submitting to the SMSC. This conversion will replace each character not-belonging to the GSM alphabet to the closest available character.
* Use GSM alphabet for MC Specific data coding specifies whether your SMSC treats the MC Specific data coding as the GSM alphabet.
Use 16-bit reference number for concatenated messages specify whether to use 16-bit instead of 8-bit reference number for sending concatenated messages. Note that the 16-bit number uses one more byte in the outgoing frame, so it may decrease the number of available characters in the message.
