How to Create an ODBC Data Source

Follow these steps to create an ODBC Data Source for a Microsoft Access database:

  1. Select Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Data Sources (ODBC) to open the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
  2. Switch to the System DSN tab.


     
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. Select Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) and click the Finish button.


     
  5. Type the name of Data Source in the Data Source Name field.


     
  6. Click the Select or Create button depending on whether you wish to use the existing database file or create a new one.
  7. Select the existing database file, or, type the name of the new database file and select the directory in which you wish to create the empty database.
  8. Exit all dialogs with the OK button until you leave the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
